What is involved in the PADI Wreck Diver course?
The specialty course consists of 2 sections:
Knowledge Development for Wreck Diver
Complete the PADI Wreck Diver e-learning manual, completing the knowledge review.
Open Water training for Wreck Diver Course
Your open water training dives will be conducted on one of the three wrecks around Koh Tao. The selection of the site will depend on a number of factors including weather and our diving schedule.
The shipwrecks we have around Koh Tao are HTMS Sattakut, an ex-US WW2 navy boat that served with the Thai Navy afterward, and HTMS Suphairin and HTMS Hanhak Sattru, two Thai Navy ships commissioned in the 1970s.
Wreck Diver Training dives 1 & 2
You will meet your PADI diving instructor prior to the dive boat departing to review your e-learning and review some of the skills you will be expected to master underwater.
If you are already a PADI Advanced Open Water diver, you have already completed Wreck Diver Training dive 1, so we can offer you a fun dive along with Wreck Diver Training dive 2 on this dive trip.
One of the skills you will run through on dry land prior to doing it underwater is the deployment and retrieval of a penetration line.
During Wreck training dive #1, you will learn how to safely plan and execute a wreck dive deeper than 18 meters. You will also be asked to swim along the outside whilst identifying any potential hazards.
On Wreck Diver training dive #2, you will make a map of the wreck. The map will include an outline, as well as some features including points of interest. You will be asked to survey the wreck for the following day’s penetration dive.
Wreck Diver Training dives 3 & 4
During Wreck Diver training dive #3, you will practice the deployment and retrieval of a penetration line, in the same way as you practiced on land the previous day.
Underwater along the outside of the wreck, you will swim along the deployed penetration line with a dive light whilst maintaining contact with the line without kicking up any silt.
During your final training dive of the course—Wreck Diver training dive #4—you will plan and perform a wreck penetration dive that enters and exits the wreck.
Swimming with a dive light in your hand, you will move through the wreck, keeping in contact with the line at all times without causing excessive silt disturbance.
Upon completion of all the requirements, you will be certified as a PADI Wreck Specialty Diver.

Why Choose PADI for Wreck Diver course?
PADI dive centers must adhere to the highest training standards and customer service levels in the dive industry.
PADI is the most recognized agency worldwide when it comes to recreational diving courses, with hundreds of agencies around the world; PADI is established in more countries than any other agency.
In short, if you go to a small island in the middle of the ocean and there is a diving school, it is most likely PADI.
PADI is the only training agency whose curriculum is written by educational authors, using tried, tested, and trusted learning philosophies adapted for scuba diving.
The PADI system is performance-based, not time-based.
What this means is you will have to earn your certification, and you can’t buy it!
Please keep in mind that we are going to ask you to do more than other dive centers and agencies. On the bright side, this will mean you will receive a higher quality training course and will be much better prepared as a certified scuba diver.
PADI is the only agency that conducts customer satisfaction surveys to ensure that its professionals are meeting the highest standards of education and safety, while other agencies only ask instructors or schools to manage their own standards.
