What is an Enriched Air Nitrox Diver?
Enriched Air, also referred to as Nitrox or EANx, is a breathing gas that contains a higher percentage of oxygen and a lower percentage of nitrogen than when we dive on air.
Air is approximately 79% nitrogen and 21% oxygen whereas Nitrox breathing gases have an Oxygen content ranging from 22-40%.
The most popular Nitrox blends are 32% & 36% Oxygen.
What are the benefits of diving on Nitrox?
The primary reason we dive on Nitrox is it allows us to extend our bottom time compared to when diving on Air. The reason for this is it’s the Nitrogen in the air that we breathe that is responsible for decompression sickness (DCS). If we reduce the amount of Nitrogen you breathe, you can extend the time you stay underwater without increasing the chances of DCS.
Other benefits for diving on Nitrox include shorter surface intervals, again due to less Nitrogen being breathed and this being in our system. Many divers also report feeling less fatigued after Nitrox diving compared to how they felt after diving on air.

The course consists of 3 sections:
Knowledge Development
Complete the PADI Enriched Air e-learning manual, completing the knowledge review and the final exam.
Practical Assessments
How to use an oxygen analyzer to determine the oxygen content in an enriched air blend.
How to verify cylinder content data and sign the fill log.
Demonstrate the procedures for obtaining an enriched fill and renting an enriched air cylinder from an enriched air fill station.
Open Water training – 2 training dives
Use your dive computer to plan and execute two dives within the no stop limits establishing your maximum depth and oxygen exposure limits during pre-dive planning.
Option 2:
Don’t have time to do the dives?
Although it’s recommended that you conduct Enriched Air Dives 1 and 2 whenever possible, you do have the option to conduct pre-dive simulation exercises instead if you don’t have the time to complete the dives.
In this situation, this is what the course would entail:
Knowledge Development
Complete the PADI Enriched Air e-learning manual and complete the knowledge review and the final exam.
Practical Assessments
- Demonstrate pre-dive equipment setup, blend analysis, and label confirmation for two enriched air dives with two different scuba cylinders filled with enriched air.
- Demonstrate how to set an EANx compatible dive computer for two enriched air blends based on the analyzed content of the two cylinders.
- Demonstrate how to find the maximum depth for the EANx blend for the analyzed content of the two cylinders.
- Plan two enriched air computer dives based on depths, times, and gas supply provided by the diving instructor and the analyzed content of the two scuba cylinders filled with enriched air.
Option 3
Combine the Enriched Air Nitrox course with any PADI training course and do two of the training dives on Enriched Air Nitrox.

Prerequisites for PADI Enriched Air Diver course
To embark on this exciting adventure and further improve your skills as a diver, there are a series of requirements:
- Open Water Certification: Obviously, you need to be an Open Water diver and have dived relatively recently. If you need a refresher on your diving skills, we can do that too!
- Be in good health: As for every PADI course, you will have to complete a medical questionnaire to ensure that there are no contraindications with diving.
- Minimum age: You have to be at least 12 years old to be eligible to enroll in an Enriched Air Diver course.

Complete the PADI Enriched Air Diver e-Learning ahead of time.
- Meet your Diving Instructor to review the e-learning
- Complete the Practical Assessments 1 & 2
- Dive either on our morning boat @07:15 or afternoon boat @12:15
In less than 24 hours you will have completed the PADI Enriched Air Diver course and we will issue you with the prestigious PADI Enriched Air Diver certification.
This will allow you to dive anywhere in the world on Enriched Air Nitrox.
