What is the EFR course?

Creating confidence to Care – be an asset to your community and become an Emergency First Responder.

Becoming an Emergency First Responder means you will be ready to offer assistance in an emergency situation, whether at your workplace, in a public place or even at home.

The EFR Primary & Secondary Care course prepares you to provide assistance during a medical emergency and will give you the knowledge and teach you the First Aid & CPR skills that can make a difference and help someone in need.

You will gain confidence to handle challenging emergency situations, become a help to others and the EFR Primary & Secondary Care course is an important prerequisite for Rescue Diver and Divemaster training.

The EFR Primary & Secondary Care is open to both scuba divers who have completed PADI diving courses and non-divers.

The EFR courses follow International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) guidelines and protocols and are internationally approved.

  • How to recognise medical emergencies and activate EMS

EFR Scenario’s in the course

Once you have mastered the Emergency First Response (EFR) Primary & Secondary Care skills you will be required to successful complete four (4) final scenarios

  • Demonstrate scene assessment and primary assessment procedures for assisting an unconscious, breathing patient.
  • Demonstrate scene assessment, barrier use, primary assessment and one rescue CPR for assisting patient that is unresponsive and not breathing normally.
  • Demonstrate primary care skills including bleeding management, shock management and spinal injury management.
  • Demonstrate primary care skills by attending to two patients.

What is the EFR course schedule?

The EFR Primary & Secondary Care course has three components:

Knowledge Development, Skill Development & Scenarios

Our standard course schedule is as follows:

  • Once we receive your deposit we will issue you with the EFR e-learning
  • You will watch the video and complete the EFR e-learning on your mobile phone prior to starting the EFR practical skills
  • We meet at 08:00 for Skill Development & Scenarios, finishing around 14:00
  • At the very end of the course you will be required to complete and pass a final exam.

What is the cost of the EFR First Aid & CPR course on Koh Tao?

The EFR Primary & Secondary Care course on Koh Tao is priced at 4,750 THB without Rescue diver course and 4,000 THB when purchased with Rescue Diver course and includes the EFR e-learning manual, and all first aid equipment required for participating in the course and our guarantee that you will be in a group of maximum 4 students per EFR Instructor.

How long does the EFR First Aid & CPR course take to complete ?

The EFR Primary & Secondary Care course on Koh Tao is scheduled over approximately 8 hours starting at 08:00 and includes 3 sections; knowledge development, skill development and mastery as well as the final scenarios.

Once you have booked and paid your deposit we will send you the knowledge development to complete. The EFR e-learning should be completed ahead of time on your mobile telephone. This will save you valuable time that can be better used during the skill development.

You will be introduced to 9 Primary care and 4 secondary care skills that you must master. Once you have mastered all skills you will be tested on your Emergency response abilities and management skills by completing 4 scenarios.

Please be aware that like all PADI courses, our EFR Primary & Secondary Care course is performance based.

What this means is you must master every performance requirement. We will work with you to ensure mastery, even if this means spending additional skill sessions with you on a one on one basis.

This may mean the minimum schedule being extended to allow you additional training as deemed necessary by your EFR Instructor.

Does the EFR First Aid & CPR certification last forever?

Upon successful completion of all performance requirements you will be certified as an EFR Primary & Secondary Emergency First Responder. This certification is valid for 24 months from the date you are certified. To renew your Emergency First Responder certification you can complete an EFR Refresher course.

Is the EFR First Aid & CPR course on Koh Tao Internationally recognised?

Yes, the EFR Primary & Secondary Care course on Koh Tao is an Internationally recognised First Aid and CPR certificate and follows the standards and guidelines of ILCOR – International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation.

ILCOR is composed of the American Heart Association (AHA), the European Resuscitation Council (ERC), the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC), the Australian and New Zealand Committee on Resuscitation (ANZCOR), the Resuscitation Councils of Southern Africa (RCSA), the Resuscitation Councils of Asia (RCA), the Inter American Heart Foundation (IAHF), and the Indian Resuscitation Council Federation (IRCF).

What is included within the EFR course on Koh Tao?

The EFR e-learning manual, all first aid equipment required for participating in the course and meeting performance requirements is included such as a CPR manikin, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) rubber gloves, bandages and splints.
