Why should I take the PADI AWARE Specialty course?

By taking this course, you become an ocean ambassador, gaining knowledge and skills to make a positive impact on marine conservation and inspire others to do the same.

What is the PADI AWARE Specialty and how is it different from other courses?

The PADI AWARE Specialty is a non-diving, dry course that serves as the philosophical foundation for all marine conservation efforts.

Unlike skills-based courses, this program focuses on the complex relationship between human activity and aquatic ecosystems.

At Isla Tortuga Divers, we dive deep into the 10 Tips for Divers to Protect the Ocean Planet, teaching you how to become an eco-conscious traveler and an effective advocate for the underwater world, regardless of your current certification level.

Can I take the PADI AWARE course if I am not a certified scuba diver?

Absolutely! This is one of the most inclusive courses in the PADI system. It is open to snorkelers, families, and anyone with a passion for the ocean.

Because it is a dry classroom-based course, there are no age or medical prerequisites.

At our 5-Star IDC facility, we often run this program for groups of travelers who want to understand more about the local ecology of Koh Tao before they even step foot on a boat.

What specific global issues are covered in this conservation specialty?

The course provides a comprehensive overview of the most pressing threats to our oceans, including plastic pollution, overfishing, habitat destruction, and the impacts of climate change on coral reefs.

As an industry authority, Isla Tortuga Divers provides local context to these global issues; we discuss how these factors specifically impact the Gulf of Thailand and what local initiatives are being taken to mitigate them, ensuring the training is both educational and practically relevant.

How does completing the PADI AWARE course support local conservation?

Knowledge is the first step toward action. By completing this specialty, you join a global movement of Torchbearers dedicated to ocean protection.

At Isla Tortuga Divers, we donate a portion of the course proceeds directly to the PADI AWARE Foundation to fund global marine protection projects.

Furthermore, the awareness you gain during the workshop directly influences your behavior on the reef, ensuring you serve as a role model for sustainable diving every time you visit sites like Chumphon Pinnacle or Twins.

Does this course count toward my Master Scuba Diver rating?

Yes! Even though it is a dry course, the PADI AWARE Specialty is a recognized PADI certification that counts as one of the five specialties required for the prestigious Master Scuba Diver rating.

It is a fantastic way to add an environmental component to your Black Belt of diving.

By earning this specialty at our 5-Star center, you demonstrate that you are a well-rounded diver who values the health of the ocean as much as the technical skills of diving.
