FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What type of PADI specialty courses are there on Koh Tao?

Koh Tao offers a wide choice of PADI specialty courses to enhance your diving skills and knowledge and it depends on your area of interest.

PADI specialty courses available depend on the dive center. These type of courses cater to various interests and experience levels, allowing you to customize your diving education and explore new underwater passions.

Can I complete multiple PADI specialty courses together?

Yes, you can combine multiple PADI specialty courses depending on your diving goals and schedule. For example, you can combine courses like Nitrox Diver with Wreck Diver to earn both certifications. Contact us to customize a course package suited to your preferences.

What exactly are PADI Specialty Courses and why should I take them?

PADI Specialty Courses are focused courses that provide in-depth training in specific areas of diving interest, such as wreck exploration, deep diving, or underwater photography.

While core certifications like Open Water provide a broad foundation, specialties allow you to hone unique skills, master specialized equipment, and increase your comfort in varied underwater environments.

At Isla Tortuga Divers, we use these courses to transform you from a generalist into a specialist, opening up dive sites and experiences that are often restricted to those with advanced specialized training.

How long do these courses take and what is the typical cost?

Most PADI Specialties are performance-based and can be completed in just 1 to 2 days. The duration depends on the number of required training dives, which usually range from two to four.

At Isla Tortuga Divers, our course pricing is transparent and typically ranges from 4,000 THB to 14,500 depending on the specific specialty chosen.

This all-inclusive fee covers your PADI eLearning materials, specialized equipment rental, and expert instruction from our elite team of PADI specialty instructors.

Can I count my Advanced Open Water Adventure Dives toward a full specialty?

Yes! This is one of the most efficient ways to continue your education. Every Adventure Dive you completed during your PADI Advanced Open Water course can be credited as the first dive of its corresponding full Specialty course.

This means if you loved your Advanced Wreck dive, you may only need three more training dives to earn your full PADI Wreck Diver certification.

At our 5-Star IDC dive center, we leverage your prior experience to fast-track your path to specialist status.

Which specialties are most recommended for beginners in Koh Tao?

For those looking to improve their fundamental skills, we highly recommend Peak Performance Buoyancy, which refines your control and reduces air consumption.

Enriched Air (Nitrox) is another essential choice, as it allows for longer bottom times and shorter surface intervals – perfect for the multi-dive days we enjoy here in Koh Tao.

Other popular options for beginners include Underwater Navigator to build confidence in finding your way back to the boat and Underwater Naturalist to start learning more about the marine environment and its inhabitants.

How do specialty courses help me reach the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating?

The PADI Master Scuba Diver rating is the highest non-professional level in recreational diving, often called the Black Belt of scuba.

To achieve this elite status, you must complete five PADI Specialty courses, hold a Rescue Diver certification, and have at least 50 logged dives.

Each specialty you earn at Isla Tortuga Divers acts as a building block toward this prestigious recognition, showcasing your commitment to diving excellence and your diverse range of underwater competencies.
